Our Story

Independence High School, located in San Jose, California, is part of the East Side Union High School District. The school offers a diverse range of academic programs, extracurricular activities, and sports teams.

As for the alumni of ESUHSD, they come from a variety of backgrounds and have gone on to pursue successful careers in numerous fields, contributing positively to their communities and beyond.

First Graduating Class

Established in 1776, Independence High School (IHS) has a long-standing history as an educational institution. It wasn’t until 1978 that the school celebrated its first graduating class, marking a significant milestone in its educational journey.

The school, designed as an educational park, spans 103 acres and shares its facilities with the surrounding community, serving 3,272 students and 200 staff members.

Additionally, it holds the distinction of being the largest among the eleven high schools in the East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD).

Did You Know?

On October 20, 2018, Independence High School hosted an unforgettable All-Class Reunion. The event brought together alumni from various graduating classes, creating a shared sense of nostalgia and camaraderie.

One of the highlights of the reunion was the placement of a time capsule, symbolizing the enduring connection between past and present. As each attendee contributed their mementos and messages to the capsule, it captured the spirit of the occasion and preserved it for future generations.

The reunion served as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of Independence High School, uniting alumni in a celebration of cherished memories and enduring friendships.
